It has been just a couple of days since the launch of yadley.com. We established this online platform with the aim of linking aspiring Pilots and Flight Attendants from Africa with training, scholarship and job opportunities. In just these few hours since the website launch, I have been surprised to receive some emails from my fellow African brothers and sisters with the words below.
“Are you not a scam?”
“Who do you think you are, Superman?”
“What good is your sight when you can’t offer me a job”
All this makes me think where we really are going as a nation, as a continent. Seriously, are we still at the level of thinking that, somehow we make ourselves better by putting other people down? If we really want to fight, then my thinking is that it should be more satisfying to throw a punch at an enemy than a friend. We have an enemy, and our enemy is called poverty. We are wiser if we focus all our energies in fighting that enemy than in fighting one another.
At the same time, lets look for opportunities in which we can serve each other.Do we want to see our continent grow? Then lets start with the little things that matter, celebrating each others` successes. Genuinely and practically, rejoice in the fortune of others. When somebody receives something that you desire, be happy for them. Stop viewing life as a competition, oh Africa please stop it!. Joy is not a perishable resource. And the moment you learn to experience happiness in others’ joy is the day you take a huge step in contributing to the development of Africa. My colleagues and I at yadley.com are committed to developing African aviation and no negative word is going to stop us.
